Create a plan. Before diving into anything, you want to set up a strategy that’s designed to help you stay on track. Depending on your preferences, you could start with the area in your home that requires the most work. Alternately, you could go room-by-room, beginning with the area where you spend the most time. Figure out what works for you.
Clear out the clutter. Spring cleaning can be overwhelming when you survey everything in front of you. That is why we recommend taking care of the clutter beforehand. Simply sort items into these three categories: throw out, donate, and store away. With all the junk removed, you’ll have a clearer path to clean.
Clean from top to bottom. As you clean, remember to go from the highest points and work your way down. That way you can avoid getting items you just cleaned dirty again.
Spring cleaning checklist
Dust every surface, nook, and cranny in your home. Don’t forget ceiling fans, lampshades, drapes, and hard-to-reach places. You want to eliminate the chances of allergens circulating throughout rooms.
Once the weather has changed, store seasonal items away, including holiday decorations, cold-weather apparel, and heavier bed sets.
Clean out your pantry and refrigerator. Throw out any expired products that no longer have a use. You can also do this with your medicine cabinet!
Testing every carbon monoxide alarm and smoke detector. If it has been more than a year since you’ve changed the batteries, do that now.
Wipe the windows in every room. Don’t forget to clean up the windowsills!
Vacuum, sweep, and mop the floors.
