Before we even get to the idea of the size of a new AC installation, we have to address the different types of air conditioners on the market. There is a larger variety of systems than ever before, and not all of them will work efficiently or effectively with your home. Each type has pros and cons, and you should talk carefully with your installer about which type will provide your home with more in the “pro” column.
Air Conditioning Size
It’s easy to understand why an air conditioner that is too small for a home will present serious problems. But you cannot go to the opposite extreme. An oversized AC will short-cycle, turning on and off rapidly so that it drains excess power and drives itself into a premature retirement. There is an ideal air conditioning size located between these two extremes, and it takes the technical knowledge of a trained HVAC professional to find it.
