Below are three of the ways that ductless mini splits achieve superior efficiency compared to conventional forced-air heaters and air conditioners.
1. No leaky air ducts
The U.S. EPA has determined that leaks inside the ductwork of a home’s ventilation system can lead to a loss of up to 30% of the conditioned air moving through them. That is a lot of energy going to waste on air that won’t even reach the rooms. Ductless mini splits send out heated and cooled air from air handlers mounted in the different rooms, with no ductwork along the way to allow the air to escape.
2. Smaller motors
The mechanical components in ductless mini splits are small, precision devices. They consume less energy to run than the much larger fans found in conventional split systems.
3. Zone control
With a standard forced-air heating and cooling system, all the rooms connected to the ventilation receive heating/cooling whenever the system turns on—regardless of whether the rooms need it or not. That means a great deal of energy is wasted on empty rooms.
