Are Ductless Split Systems Easy to Install?

Ductless split systems, also known as ductless mini-split heat pumps, are an increasingly popular way for homes to enjoy central heating and cooling without the necessity of extensive ductwork. Because ductless systems use smaller blower units than a central AC or heater and do not gain or lose heat through duct walls, they perform at higher energy efficiency. They also allow for greater freedom when designing or remodeling a home since they remove space-consuming ductwork from the equation.

Installing a ductless mini-split system is easier than putting in a central AC or heater. However, this doesn’t mean it is actually easy. You cannot perform this job as a weekend DIY project, nor should you relegate to inexperienced technicians. Call on professionals, and they will take care of all the necessary installation work in a brief time.

What Ductless Mini Split Installation Involves

To put in a new ductless mini-split, installers must first place a series of blower units around the house. These small units contain a fan and refrigerant coil, and they send cooled/heated air directly into the rooms. The installers figure out how many blower units the house needs and where they should be placed. They then fit mounting frames onto the walls and drill holes to the outside for the power, refrigerant, and condensation lines. The blowers are then attacked to these frames.

The installers then place the outdoor cabinet, which is similar to the cabinet of a standard heat pump or air conditioner. The power and refrigerant lines from the blowers connect to the cabinet. Once this task is done, the installers can test the system to see if the blowers and all the other components are working as they should. The process should only take a few hours, and once it’s completed you will have a working air conditioner and heating system that will last for many years.
