What Is a 2-Stage Furnace?

Thursday, February 5th, 2015

Have you ever wished that your furnace could operate on a variable level instead of putting out the same amount of heat whether it’s 40 degrees or minus 10 degrees? You can with a 2-stage furnace. Having two stages allows the furnace to operate at two different levels, depending on your heating needs. If you’ve been looking for a way to heat your home in accordance with the outside temperature, you may want to consider the installation of a 2-stage heating system for your Waynesville, NC home.

How Does It Work?

Every furnace has a maximum output of heat, given in BTUs (British thermal units). With a single-stage furnace, whenever the thermostat calls for heat, you get the maximum amount of heat from your furnace every time. This means that your furnace works at full capacity no matter what the temperature. With a 2-stage furnace, there are two settings at which the furnace operates, low and high, which allows your furnace to heat well but without being at full capacity if it isn’t needed.

Low and High Settings

The low setting is what a 2-stage furnace will operate at 75-80% of the time; the furnace will run at high capacity for the very cold days. When operating on low capacity, the heat cycles are longer but run at the lower capacity; this allows for more continuous heating and warmth for your home. When it is very cold outside, the furnace operates at the high setting, ensuring you have the heat and comfort you want.

  • More even, consistent heating – because the system operates at the low setting most of the time, you won’t have the spikes of heat and cooling off period that can happen with a single-stage furnace. This creates more comfortable heating for your home.
  • Better energy efficiency – a 2-stage furnace consumes less fuel at the lower setting, making it more energy efficient.
  • Less wear – a 2-stage furnace has longer run cycles, so there is less turning and off, which helps reduce the wear on the system.

A 2-stage furnace can help you increase your energy efficiency while allowing you to tailor your heating capacity right from the furnace.

If a 2-stage furnace sounds like a good option for your home, call the experts at Premier Indoor Comfort Systems today and schedule an appointment.

How to Prepare for Heating Installation

Monday, October 6th, 2014

Actually installing a heating system is a difficult procedure, and not one that you should attempt without extensive professional knowledge. That being said, you can make your HVAC technician’s job a lot easier by taking a few steps beforehand. Take a look at the steps below to find out how you can facilitate the installation of your heating system.

Proper Unit Size

The first thing you’ll want to do is pick a unit that is the proper size for your home. A unit that is too small will constantly struggle to heat your home, consuming more fuel and costing you money. It will also likely leave uncomfortable cold spots in your house. A unit that is too large will produce more heat than it can use. This lost heat will also cost you money every time the heat runs for a while. A unit that is too large will also “short-cycle” by turning on and off repeatedly. This causes more wear and tear in the long term. Picking a properly sized unit is the first step in ensuring that your heating system is energy efficient.

Make Plans to Stay Warm

It may seem obvious, but if you’re planning to install a new heating system during the winter, you may get uncomfortably cold. If you know it’s likely to be cold on the day your installation is scheduled, plan out how you’re going to stay warm. Blankets, well-insulated clothes, lighting fireplaces, even some hot drinks can make your time without central heating more comfortable.

Clear Enough Space to Work

Installing a heating system tends to involve moving a lot of heavy equipment. Before your professional installer gets there, be sure to clear enough space for them to work safely and quickly. Walkways should be open, as well as the site of installation itself. By doing this, you ensure that everything goes as smoothly as possible.

If you are looking to install a new heating system in your home, contact Premier Indoor Comfort Systems. We cover the entire Canton area.

What’s at Risk with a Poor Heating Installation?

Monday, November 4th, 2013

Jackson County, GA heating installation services need to take more than a chilly winter into account. Ours is an old part of the country, with settlements stretching back to the Revolutionary War.  We have the housing to match that history, with modern developments sitting close to stately old Georgia mansions. You can use a variety of heating systems to keep them warm, but in every case, you want to make sure the system is installed properly. What’s at risk with poor heating installation in Jackson County? Time, money and a whole lot of bother.

Poor installation means a system that doesn’t fit its housings very well, a system where lines and connections aren’t in place the way they should be, and a system that, while functioning, isn’t as efficient as it could be. The causes for such shoddiness are numerous – the wrong parts, inadequate time spend in the installations, jury-rigging solution instead of following all the steps properly – but they all come back to the technician performing the installation. It’s his or her job to make sure the installation is as reliable as it can be.

Unfortunately, the homeowner tends to pay the price for poor heating installation. While the heater may function, it will labor to do its job more than it should, which means it will use more energy and cost you more in monthly heating bills than you’d like. And that strain eventually shows up in increased repair bills too, as individual components fail before they should and the wear-and-tear goes up demonstrably. In the worst cases, you may need to hire somebody else to reinstall your unit, or even purchase a new one if the installation if the first one is put in too carelessly.

None of that should be on your mind when installing a new heater; it’s supposed to make your home more comfortable, not more work. That’s why you need trained professionals like the ones at Premier Indoor Comfort Systems to help. We employ trained professionals and our goal is nothing less than your complete satisfaction. Tips for Efficient Heating

Monday, February 18th, 2013

Although efficient cooling is much more recognized as a way of cutting costs during the long summer, efficient heating is no less important. There are a few ways you can heat your Waynesville, NC home more efficiently, which helps both your wallet and the environment. For further information, please contact Premier Indoor Comfort Systems, serving all of Atlanta, GA.

One of the many ways to save energy in your home is to upgrade your heating system to a more recent and highly-efficient model. These days you can install a heater with an AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) rating of up to 98%, which means that there is only a 2% of energy loss during the heat conversion and distribution process. That said, how much energy you save ultimately depends on the quality of your home’s ductwork and insulation. Alternatively, ductless mini split heaters offer high-efficiency units that suspend from the ceiling or hang high on a wall. Premier offers Mitsubishi ductless systems, which are both highly-efficient and use non-ozone depleting refrigerant.

But there are still other less expensive ways to get more from your existing system. An Waynesville, NC heating expert may recommend servicing several parts of your heating system to maximize the energy efficiency of your home. Scheduling a routine preventive maintenance plan is the first step. Cleaning and replacing your air filter, ensuring that your ductwork is sealed properly and does not leak are parts of a high-efficiency program aimed at minimizing your energy use. Another option is to ask for the installation of a programmable thermostat. This device allows you to further customize the temperature of your home by scheduling times of the day, and days of the week, to automatically adjust the temperature.

Remember that the key to energy-efficient heating is the proper installation and maintenance of your heating system. Call a local Waynesville, NC heating expert at Premier Indoor Comfort Systems.
